When nothing goes right …

You have got to feel for Sophie Delezio and her family. There she was at kindergarden when out of no where a car driven by an elderly man ploughes into her kindergarden and catches fire. She suffered terrible burns and if that wasn’t bad enough, lost both her feat and an ear.

She was on the path to recovery when in May when again another car driven by an elderly man again entered her life striking her on a pedestrian crossing while being pushed home in her stroller, leaving her with several broken bones and a damaged lung.

Now today emblazed accross the front page of the paper was the fact that she has now been diagnosed with a brain injury that affects her ability to learn by reducing her attention span and her ability to focus. While she is only five now, obviously it can have an effect on her future as she gets older.

Hopefully this is the last of Sophie’s mishaps. I have often questioned the driving ability of the elderly as there seems to come a point where they should not be driving any more. I’ve seen them driving the wrong way around round abouts, the wrong side of the road and my grand father when alive was prone to accidents. Saddly it is often considered a case of civil liberties for the elderly, not the people that run the risk of being hurt by them.
